E103 is over current / over voltage on the y1 wire. the most common cause of this is a bad contactor in the outdoor unit, when the coil wears down there's more resistance in the low voltage circuit, creating a higher amperage. you could also have a loose connection, or a burned y wire. if the contactor is good, and the wire is good, then the nest would be defective in this case I have tried many things to remedy it: New control board (no change) ran brand new y wire from thermostat to control board (no change) ran new y and c wires out to condenser at contactor (no change) took off contactor and took it apart and cleaned it (no change) replaced nest with original thermostat (when cooling clicked on, it blew the fuse. My nest thermostat is giving an error (e103) with the y1 wire for my downstairs.
Just to clarify, wh. Leaving the nest is a wire labeled y (y1). this is the wire to tell the outdoor unit to kick on. This wire goes from the nest to the furnace. then leapfrogs to outside unit. The wire is relatively unprotected. it is basic thermostat wire that runs with the freon pipes outside. The biggest culprit for this code is damage to that wire. It basically means you have a hot wire. The voltage is right, but the amps/current is off. Nest automatically turns off the circuit to prevent potential damage to the hvac and itself. Getting an experienced hvac tech would be the best.
